Yes, that's right. Municipalities could opt out -- and much of 905 did (otherwise it's mostly small towns that did).

But the AGCO regulations say nothing about municipalities being able to set a minimum distance between stores. In fact, the regulations say that "The only areas of public interest the Registrar can consider, as defined by the regulations, are related to public health and safety, protecting youth and restricting their access to cannabis, and preventing illegal activities in relation to cannabis." It would be hard to argue that the distance to the next store would harm public interest.

Sativa Bliss is now open. I think Cannabist (across from City Hall) is also open.

In total, seven shops now authorized for Kitchener:
  • Cannabis Supply Co., 1400 Weber St E
  • Sessions Cannabis, 2480 Homer Watson Blvd
  • The Cannabist Shop, 201 King St W
  • Meta Cannabis Co, 569 Fairway Rd S
  • Highland Cannabis, 370 Highland Rd W
  • Sativa Bliss Cannabis 57 Queen St S
  • Elevate Cannabis, 73 King St W

Not sure if this was listed or not, but I noticed a sign for an application for tokyo smoke next to the first choice haircutters on bridgeport road when I was going to Sobeys earlier today.

I only listed the approved ones. There are eight more applications in progress.

Is it known which companies own the local stores? I've been told that the larger players have been buying up the independents to increase their number of outlets.

If you go to the web sites you will see that many of them are chains with multiple locations.

But are there companies that own multiple chains?  I don't get a sense of how many retail players are actually in the game.

Does anyone know if it is related to the gaming shop that used to be next door, or is the naming coincidental?

Budd & Sally's in Uptown has been acquired by the Canna Cabana chain: https://cannacabana.com/welcome-to-the-family-bud-sally/

Oh shit they (not necessarily the pot shop, perhaps the landlord) took down the laundry-related ornamentation! I dislike that so much.

Edit: Oh, it's probably just hidden behind the banner.
