I mean it just looks straight out of the 80's with that siding on the back. I'd literally think this is like a 30-40 year old building if I just saw it from behind with no context

It's not the SFH residental-style aluminium/vinyl siding. A closer shot shown below. The back of the building is less attractive in any case, I want to see what the front looks like when it's done.

I think the only disappointment with Charlie West is what the parking garage facade looks like. And it's not as if the developer downgraded the design, it's just that the reality of the facade doesn't look as good as the concept.

Yeah that's what I meant. The podium façade looked great at first, then it ended up being pretty bland. Duke Tower, on the other hand, did a complete 180 and ended up looking nothing like the original proposals implied. The examples seem to be endless, really. Circa 1877 ended up being a disappointment. Gaslight Condos - while not yet done - are looking extremely bad. 1 Victoria turned out looking a bit "cheap". A few ended up becoming better, though. The original proposal for Otis was terrible but the updated design is actually pretty good for a modest little condo. Likewise, the original Ophelia proposal was really ugly looking but the design they went with was an improvement.
I find this building too hard to judge at the moment. I don't mind the corrugated looking metal on the back to be honest...it gives it a sort of industrial feel. It'll just depend on what the rest of the building looks like. The rendering on the Vive Development website is too Photoshopped to judge and the one on the first page of this thread was obviously just thrown together at the initial stages. If the rest of the materials are decent, it might be okay. Green on the balconies is a bit of a strange choice though...I personally would not enjoy my balcony being green.

Really high quality sushi just requires proximity to an international airport. High end sushi restaurants purchase at the Toyosu Market in Tokyo and have it flown in. Sadly KW is a long ways from being able to support a sushi restaurant of that quality.

I'm not looking for Michelin star quality, just something on a similar level to a low-end sushi place in Tokyo. Not AYCE, more nigiri selection than just the Atlantic salmon, and respectable quality.

For sure. Ken's does that well, but I'd love somewhere in DTK that does too. I was just making the point that our proximity to the ocean isn't a big factor.

taylortbb beat me to it! KW is close enough to YYZ that fish availability is not a problem. But trust me when I say KW is streets ahead of Wellington for sushi. There isn't much AYCE here (a plague!) but it's also quite hard to get something that's not salmon.
I did like Watami both in its first and second incarnations on King St. Not quite as good as Vancouver but ok.
