I don't think so. They own their current HQ, it's a new set of buildings -- and they would need more space than is available at the Tannery.

Unless a new large tenant has designs on the BlackBerry HQ - and they would probably call dibs on the Tannery anyway.

I am just talking about some small part of BB possibly re-locating there (I have no idea what it would be but... ) This is only 23,000 sq. ft.. This is also a lease not a purchase.

If the IT world is about LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION then look at all the exposure BB would get being located (partially) in the new heart of the Waterloo Region IT sector.

It's apparently supposed to be a global professional services company; think accounting firms, engineers, management consultants, lawyers, etc. I think stuff like data centres or internet exchanges might qualify by some definitions, but that seems unlikely to me.

Edit: What about IBM?

RE: General Business Updates and News - panamaniac - 01-03-2016

I'm sticking to my guess of Mercer, for no particular reason.

IBM is growing? I think it's not doing so well these days.

I wonder if we're going to have a Waterloo-Wellington Record in ten years' time.

With the present quality of their articles I wonder if we will have a Waterloo Record in ten year's time.

Agreed, they really need to cut the fluff from their print editions and drastically improve their online presence. It's a shame the Merc did neither.

Newspapers still have print editions? Who knew...

Andrew Coyne: All the news that’s fit to pay for
Quote:Of course, the reader, as such, has never been willing to pay the full cost of news, or at any rate has never been asked. The industry... has relied on advertising, rather than circulation, for the bulk of its revenues.

But now advertisers have deserted us en masse. And so the industry now faces the challenge of persuading readers, not only to read us rather than the thousands of other alternatives that are now available online, but to pay something closer to the full shot for something they have been used to getting at a heavy discount, historically, or more recently for free...

We can talk all we want about the role of social media, or Google, but in the end it comes down to whether we offer a compelling enough product to attract willing customers. And if we are honest with ourselves we will concede that all too often we have not.

The classic newspaper model has substituted quantity for quality, in hopes that if we threw enough at the reader, some of it would stick long enough for them to peruse the ads.
