Weber Street apartment building under fire watch

A seedy Kitchener apartment building plagued by what tenants call homeless drug addicts has been declared a fire hazard.

The Kitchener Fire Department has issued a "fire watch" on the 40-unit building at 48 Weber St. W.

If things get worse, the City of Kitchener could take the extreme step of ordering tenants to vacate.

The superintendent and property manager, however, says the sprawling four-storey building could be sold soon and completely renovated to live up to its previous name: the Berlin Palace.
