Yes, admittedly in February even 500m can seem long.  But for most of the year, it's really not that far for a reasonably healthy person.

Yes, but when you can usually park within 50 meters of the door, it's a big incentive to drive.  Especially when that 500 meters isn't past a relatively pleasant street-front, but past rows and rows of parked cars in an asphalt desert.

That's what you get with the big box-style malls.

Still, I will personally walk that distance, even if my car is parked there (to get to the mall in the first place).
