Light Rail Vehicles - LRT, ICTS, Monorail, and more
With tunnel boring now complete in Rennes for Ligne B, here's one of those beautiful scrolly-type picture-heavy webpages/articles about where they're at:

I love this line and can't wait to see it completed, since it's the world premiere of CityVal, the next generation VAL!

Bombardier's latest INNOVIA 300 APM opened today for trial operations in Shanghai!

This was a joint-venture project.

I love the new track system (first used on DFW Skytrain), which greatly simplifies the guideway construction over the older Westinghouse/Adtranz (100/200) system which is common throughout many airports.

RUMOR: New Monorail Fleet Has Been Ordered For Walt Disney World
The new fleet will reportedly be built by Bombardier of Canada, the same company that built the Mark VI trains for Walt Disney World

Squeeee!

I adore the MK VI's. But if they have to be replaced, there's no-one better suited to do it than Bombardier.

Hopefully they'll be built in Kingston!

. @doniveson @YEGMayorOffice  Thought you'd want to see the first @BombardierRail LRV loaded onto a rail car - set to begin its journey to #yeg. It will arrive right on time, in July!

I didn't expect them to be able to put all seven segments on one car! Impressive.

Pretty interesting milestone from France. The city of Caen had a guided busway prototype, which was fraught with problems. This was essentially Bombardier's take on LOHR's Translohr ("Tram-on-tyres") system, which has had many successful installations around the world.  They replace the entire system with conventional tramway, and just took delivery of the first Alstom LRV.

I can't even imagine how they are selling this to the city, and that's why I find this project so interesting - only a handful of times in history has an entire technology been replaced in this kind of 1:1 fashion.  Jacksonville's done it (MATRA VAL 256 was replaced with a Universal Mobility monorail), as an example - but it's exceedingly rare.
