My wife and I stopped by last weekend for the grand opening. It was very well attended, and I was surprised at the quality of the fireworks show. I'll definitely be in attendance next year.

With the holidays approaching events slow down a bit. Nonetheless there are a few nice things coming this way for this period. The event of the week this time is the reopening of Maxwell's, the main venue for indie music in the region:

Since the Kultrún World Music Festival (July 7-9) doesn't have its own thread, I thought I'd give this one a (long overdue!) bump.  Looks like they have put together a pretty ambitious program (plus a new food truck!).  Isabel Cisterna (Neruda Arts) deserves a lot of credit for her contributions to the local cultural scene.

This promises to be an interesting event.

Quote:Overview

Dubbed the Region’s ‘biggest outdoor dance party,’ Kultrún is a family-friendly celebration of diversity featuring local, national and international world music bands, all-ages interactive activities, workshops by professional artists, performance art, a food, craft and art market and a beer garden cantina. This year’s line-up includes high-energy trad-folk Québécois bands, Moroccan gospel, flamenco, Afro and Latin jazz, Brazilian forró and lots more fantastic world music! Excepting a ticked opening Gala July 8th at TheMuseum, Kultrún is a FREE festival taking place July 9-10 in Downtown Kitchener’s Victoria Park. The Festival runs Saturday from 12noon - 11pm and Sunday from 12noon - 9pm.
