THEMUSEUM's CEO, David Marskell, and family, have made a one million dollar donation to the museum.  Bravo!

To note - Marskell is encouraging the community to match the donation ....

The BMO building at 2 King West is being sold to THEMUSEUM, which will permit it to double in size.

Dare one hope that that brutally ugly bank building will be torn down and replaced?

Will the BMO open another location in DTK, I wonder?

I can't see them leaving downtown entirely, but modern banking will likely mean they can occupy a smaller space.

They may build on top of it or tear it down according to an article in The Record.

Quote:While the BMO building is not that big, the property has potential for significant expansion by adding upper floors to the existing building, or tearing it down and replacing it with a new, larger one, said Frank Boutzis, president of Themuseum's board of directors.

Yes.

Quote:Themuseum plans to raise money and hopes to close the deal to buy the bank building by the end of November. BMO says the timing is right because it wants to relocate to a smaller building within blocks of its current location, but it is not ready to say where.

I had heard a number of years ago that themuseum hoped to acquire 8 Queen N for, among other things a theatre/auditorium space. Obviously 8 Queen went in another direction, but I hope that the new project will incorporate an amenity of that sort.

Ideally all the existing floors will get extended eastward, and then the spaces can be reconfigured to take advantage.

Let's wait and see. It seems they need to raise another $2M to buy the property -- any construction costs will be additional beyond that.
