Nearly one and a half million air trips a year by regional residents suggests there is a lot of room for expansion at the airport.   Of the popular destinations mentioned, Montreal would be my first choice since we go there more often than the other cities.

Correct, however I have questions about the viability of Ottawa and Montreal. Those seem to be destinations where people are happy to drive and of waning importance as commercial destinations. So they are going against the tide, so to speak. Flights to hubs is the way to go. Some subset of JFK, ORD, LAS, DEN, LAX, SFO, DFW, HOU, MIA, ATL.

Montreal wouldn't be the most viable destination (although we'd use it) and I'd be happy just to have more options from YKF.  Flights to a few hubs would be wonderful.
