ION - Waterloo Region's Light Rail Transit
(11-13-2018, 10:11 PM)Canard Wrote: Chris Klein and Markster did an analysis and posted it on the Facebook group claiming the end-to-end time was actually very close to the initial estimates.

As they couldn’t run at full 70 km/h along the 3 Spur sections, this only means the travel time should get even better.

Close to an hour to go 19 km/h is not good.

What was the time supposed to be? I can't recall, but I thought it was 45 minutes end to end.

Heard on the radio: 512 doing pre-departure procedures.

Update (9:05 AM): 512 is now leaving the yard

“What will rapid transit travel times be?
Approximately 46 minutes from Conestoga to Fairview Park Mall for light rail transit and approximately 40 minutes from Fairview Park mall to Ainslie Street terminal with bus rapid transit.”

I am surprised that Keolis is only hiring a communications specialist now. Perhaps signalling a new phase of the project?
Everyone move to the back of the bus and we all get home faster.

Keolis Grand River LP is supposed to take over the ION social media accounts sometime soon or closer to launch. With testing now ramping up to include all the vehicles that have the FIE it makes sense for them to hire their communications specialist now so that they can develop their communication strategies, get trained on Keolis corporate standards, and begin their messaging campaign. Especially now that winter is quite visibly upon us.

I’m surprised they are getting one now. Shouldn’t routine public communications about matters relating to LRT service and operations be completely integrated with GRT communications? The only time Keolis should need a spokesperson is if they get in a dispute with the Region and need to tell their side as distinct from what the Region is saying.

Keolis GR would better equipped for emergency and quick-response type scenarios like sending out things like service alerts and answering questions in a more timely manner than regional staff would be. Regional staff would still do some messaging, and planned messaging would still be co-ordinated but it's better for the operator of the system to handle emergency and quick-response type scenarios.

Sounds like an all-nighter training session. Also a good time to practice their storm protocol Wink

EDIT: They packed up and returned to the OMSF last train entered the yard at around 3:30 AM

Does anybody know if the latest delivery went up last night? Usually I see the train go past but I fell asleep and can’t even say for sure if there was a train.

As I was sitting in gridlock on Northfield last night, I wondered, does the snow impact LRT speed at all?

Not significantly. Any snow or ice on the rails is instantly displaced by the wheels, and steel-on-steel traction is superior to almost any other option.

Only if a large drift manages to form between vehicle passes might there be an issue.
