ION - Waterloo Region's Light Rail Transit
Well, that's going to be no problem since we're likely now looking at an opening with significantly reduced service due to the delays at Bombardier. Big Grin

Charles now open for two-way traffic from Benton to Gaukel.  And it would be much more if not for the new digs E of Benton and between Gaukel and Water.  Hopefully those will be done quickly.

Yeah, I wondered why they opened that back up fully when it's down to a single lane "narrow bridge style - yield" there at Manulife.

My guess was September 30 was a project milestone for payment so they wanted to say "look, it's open! cheque plz".

Are the new digs Grandlinq or city/region? I actually didn't pay attention ...

I'm not sure - I just saw a big hole with fences and noted traffic was down to one lane with a big "YEILD TO ONCOMING TRAFFIC" sign up when headed South there.

You mentioned you can drive King all the way to William, but it's closed at William; do they force a U-turn there, like they did on Charles at Borden for a while?

I don't believe there was a U-Turn sign there, though I suppose it's technically "forced" since you can't drive through it :Smile

Like I said though, there's the 2 little side arms right before William that connect up with William - if one absolutely needed to get into William, those are open!

Ohhhh, I've never noticed those before.  I see what you mean.

Might have to go out for a drive this afternoon - no 30 km bike rides today.  Sad

I appreciate that someone has been meticulously adding track but can someone please fix this? Smile

(Should be a double/full crossover at the terminus)

Why aren't the new streetlights properly-shielded LED lights?

Actually the dig just E of Benton is done, so Charles is open for two-way traffic all the way from Gaukel to Ottawa.  Almost there!

I believe that's not part of the Grandlinq contract.  And that's probably because those were not yet cost-effective when the RFP was written.

I heard they wanted to re-use as many fixtures as possible instead of just throwing them out. When they burn out then they'll replace them with newer ones. Kind of makes sense - environmentally friendly and financially responsible.

Even so, the ones that they put back up along Victoria are non-LEDs, despite them originally being LEDs. Which doesn't make much sense.

The Region only recently approved vendors for LED lighting. I said the same thing about the reconstruction of Franklin. There is currently an RFP out to replace 45,000 street lights with LED. Closes in a couple of weeks with the work to be completed by December 2017.

If it's a regional RFP, is it only for regional roads, or is the region also coordinating light replacement for the cities?
