If only...

Ontario considers cannabis lounges, cafes as part of future open market

I say "if only" because our Conservative government has screwed up this issue from day one.  Otherwise, I think lounges and cafes are a great idea.

I just saw the other day that legalization has lost something like 60 million so far? Are prices too high?

What does that mean? The government is not losing any money. Does it mean the cannabis companies are losing money?

I didn’t see the report, but someone else mentioned it to me yesterday.  It was not clear to me what the “loss” represented (revenue foregone?).  It was, however, the government and not the industry.

The Ontario government lost $42M selling cannabis in the last year

I imagine due to certain up front costs?

Thanks. So it's low revenues (due to small number of retail outlets) combined with significant overhead.

Totally a self-inflicted injury.

Plus I think the government thought people would stop buying from their existing suppliers whatever that may be, and then charged more than the market was willing to pay for the most part.

I expect so, yes. But the availability is an even bigger problem -- there is still no legal outlet in our region, for example, nearly 18 months after legalization.
