We all have different tastes, and that's OK. But I think it's very good that they are working with the people in the neighbourhood to find a good solution.

The big question in my mind is whether any of it will actually get built. Actually, I can't think of anything that would delay the Benton St townhouses, but who knows when/whether the apartment tower will ever be built.

The developer is putting so much effort into this that I suspect they really do intend to go ahead with it.

So close to downtown, a spit from Victoria Park, so close to transit, I mean, if they can get it to go, it would really be a decent place to live.

The planning committee has given the thumbs up for the project and now is going great council for approval. The article mentions that the original concept was a modern looking building?

Yes ... more traditional elements now, especially with the townhouses. I preferred the look of the original, but I think this one is OK, too.

It looks like the zoning has not been changed yet for this property, and I haven't seen any zoning change notice signs, either. The zoning change process will take months, and maybe they will start pre-selling once that's done, next summer or so. With luck, construction will start in 2018.

I was curious if this was true, so I tried to check out the minutes for the council meeting it was presented at, but Kitchener's minutes page is broken
It was at the Sept 26th council meeting. Staff had recommended in favour.

Aha, it's alive again.
I wonder if this link works:

Anyhow, on page 8, you will see that the zoning amendment passed. (14 i)

So why is it not visible on Kitchener's GIS? Very strange. Although the minutes don't specify the new zoning (and I can't find bylaw 2016-095 anywhere online).

Well, what's the guaranteed turnaround time for zoning changes to make it into GIS?

You didn't really expect me to know this, do you?
Building permit data appears to be getting fed in very quickly, though.

This photo was posted on their twitter feed on April 14, is this particular sign new? I know there has been a sign there for years.
