Not every building will be an architectural award winner; they are built by private companies and our zoning doesn't mandate a city architectural review (nor should it). I personally think this looks just fine, not amazing but fine, like most of the new construction in DTK. We'll get a few super nice buildings over time, some meh, and a lot of decent ones. But as long as we can avoid the calamity that is King St N (between University and Columbia) I'll be happy.
The only similarities I am making are that they are both to tallest buildings in there respective communities, therefor they attract extra scrutiny from critics. Also the ridiculous change in form for the last 4 floors. Obviously a building built in 1970's is not the same as a building built in the 2020's. I will eat my own words if they end up using quality exterior cladding materials on this one, but maybe I am wrong.
I personally don't find the change of form for the top four floors to be ridiculous, or even objectionable. But then beauty is in the eye of the beholder!
