General Suburban Updates and Rumours

Agreed! This seems like a textbook example for how to infill in an established neighbourhood. It's also next door to some other apartment buildings, so hopefully the neighbours don't fight it too hard!

Personally ... I think this looks like a pretty urban environment.

I honestly can't tell if that's sarcasm.

I mean, definition of urban vs. suburban is highly varied and context dependent.

But to me, that looks quite suburban. The setbacks are large, there's a lot of space around, yes, there's a large apartment building, you find those in the suburbs too.

I do think that it is fairly proximate to the urban area, and it is in one of the traditional suburbs which still has a hope and prayer of being pretty easily sustainable if we make small investments (unlikely a lot of later suburbs which require a significant rebuild).

It’s inside the expressway, so “urban” for WRC purposes.

I've been lurking here long enough to know that I didn't want to relitigate the whole urban/suburban debate. Alas... My assumption was that this fell outside of the Central area of the PARTS plan, so it wasn't considered to be part of the city core, thus in the sub-urban area.

As for the project itself, it seems to be pretty unremarkable. But that's what excites me the most. We are going to need a whole bunch more of these types of projects to fill in the gaps of our city to house our growing population. Hopefully it turns out well!

You beat me to it, I was coming in with the twitter link:

Right now that site appears "unreachable" for me, so it really is bleeding edge. But honestly, these people are just trash...opposing this is insanely selfish.

Remove the SSL connection and the site works, but it's real low budget garbage: http://www.wrongproject.ca

The feedback that this project has received on Nextdoor has been… mixed, to say the least. I don’t want to dox him, but the man I’ve seen fighting the project is also a very prominent member in the community, so it’s a bit disappointing to not see buy-in from people like him.

The site is definitely mediocre, but they are hosting some additional images of the planned building. Notably, it has a 50/50 green roof/rooftop patio, and parking similar to that in the Otis project downtown.

I think it’s a decent template for future infill developments, so hopefully it can proceed.

Interested to see how the heritage preservation meets the "not using the whole lot" perspective.

I would argue that this group is not a risk for doxing. I am curious who it is...but I'm unlikely to be surprised...

The page tells me that "You Are Not Connect to the Internet" followed by "This page can’t be displayed because your computer is currently offline." -- but clearly I am online. It's a weird home page. Should be an error 404, but the webmaster clearly wants to confuse people.

Unsure why this tactic.

Someone pointed out to me that it's actually a certificate error. If you manually edit the URL in the URL bar to remove the https and just leave http then you'll get the page.

It's just a notion page, I have no idea why they couldn't figure out the right DNS entries and certificates to make it work...it's pretty amateur hour.
