ION - Waterloo Region's Light Rail Transit
(12-15-2018, 12:55 PM)ijmorlan Wrote: Nice trailer. I can’t help but observe that if they have the time to make the trailer, never mind the whole documentary, they should have had time to answer a few questions on Twitter from interested citizens.

They've been making a bit more of an effort on social media since the end of the summer, but it hasn't exactly been overwhelming. I'm pretty unhappy they kept the delay until spring 2019 secret until after the election. I am glad they are doing so much public engagement with special events now, but in hindsight it's the sort of stuff they would have been doing a year ago if there was any hope of meeting previous deadlines.

The narrator's accent in that trailer is distracting. What is it, Irish?

That's TJ Flynn, and he's been with the project since Day 1, so I'm happy to hear him as the narrator. The only other person I think who could or should have done it would be Tom, or maybe have Darshpreet come back.

Flynn (as in the name) definitely sounds Irish. The Irish build things good and strong.

Could never decide which accent I liked better; Scottish (part of my heritage), Irish, Australian, South African, the Deep South in the USA or Texan. (haha..cool, the autocorrect autocorrected the Deep South to be capitalized!)

EDIT: So just watched the video, gotta say, it was well done. The accent didn't bother me, though it was fairly strong, but Flynn was obviously trying to enunciating every word clearly. I'm sure if he is Irish, he'd have a job in broadcast somewhere.

None of the above. The correct answer is New Zealand.

I didn't realize he is involved with ION, but I guess that's why he moved to the region. I met him through swimming (he's a multisport athlete) but didn't get to know him too well as I stopped swimming shortly after. Seemed really friendly, though.

Watched 510 go up Frederick a bit earlier. Interesting how much the pantograph squashes to fit under the bridge there.

The trailer for "Growing Up" is getting lots of media attention; on my drive home today I heard 570 talk about it at least 3 times, complete with little clips and so on, talking about it very positively.
