Cycling in Waterloo Region
You can just fold their mirrors in, which is non-destructive. They’re designed to do that but it’s just annoying enough it’ll piss them off. I was thinking about doing that to all the cars that weren’t completely in their parking spots and had felt the need to put 1/4 of the vehicle up into the lane... or lift the wipers. Just enough of an annoyance to make them wonder why they pissed someone off.

The Ottawa media are reporting that local plans for improved cycling infrastructure will take a hit with the Provinces cancellation of the Ontario Municipal Commuter Cycling Program (OMCCP) , which was funded from the now defunct cap-and-trade program.

I do this, especially since this actually makes the bike lane *slightly* clearer.

Although I usually fold it forward, both in convenience of just smacking it as I go by, and also to emphasize the point to the owner.

I will point out though, not all mirrors are foldable.

I’m not sure, but thinking about it a bit, I think the important fact (which the City seems to have forgotten) is that these lanes are supposed to be segregated. So, I would say that anything that needs to be roadside needs to be between the bicycle lanes and the motor vehicle lanes. So probably there should be spaces where the lanes diverge, and designated trash locations on this islands.

Going back to Toronto, this would probably have been a better solution there too, although their lanes aren’t really segregated and appear to have been added to existing pavement so it’s not quite the same situation. I should also add that I’m assuming the destroyed pylons are due to something besides the garbage trucks — if the garbage trucks are actually breaking the pylons then either the garbage trucks are being operated wrong or the pylons are incorrectly chosen. Either way, it would be the City’s problem to fix.

Maybe most modern cars can do that, but I've been in plenty that could not.

First car was an '85 Toyota Corolla Liftback, and it could do it - so I guess that's my baseline.

It's less egregious today but still wrong: two cars parked beyond the parking zone (one shown). Bylaw enforcement is not around till Monday, as I found out when I tried to call, but I guess one could call WPRS non-emergency as directed by the bylaw enforcement line.

Maybe next time. Would have to separately look up that number (and add it to my speed dial?)

They really need to install some bike racks along the bike lanes in uptown. People are locking them up to the brand new trees and damaging them.

I work in uptown and last week passed through the section with the new lanes by foot or bike in the morning, around noon, and late afternoon, Tuesday through Friday (at least 12 passes through the area). On at least three quarters of them I saw at least one obstruction (vehicle or object) blocking the way. Sadly, that actually beat my expectations; I thought it was going to be a lot worse.

Also, I saw zero patrols, regular or dedicated, and no tickets on windshields.
Everyone move to the back of the bus and we all get home faster.

It's almost like they don't want people to ride to uptown. I know I've stopped going there unless there is an absolute need.

I'm not sure what you're getting at here. There is car parking all up King St. and on every side street, as well as one off street lot. But you're arguing there *shouldn't* be bike parking?

of course there should be bike parking, I was pointing out that there was some just a block or 2 away. The argument for cars parked in that area in the bike lane is that there is parking further in uptown, just pointing out the same holds true for bike parking.
