Yes, Glasgow is annoying in that way too, especially because it's downhill.
This is even worse, because both paths will be segregated, it will literally be a curb in the middle of a straight unchanging path, as far as I can tell.

They finally finished off that last little bit of crap trail in front of Conestoga Mall.

There are hundreds of pages of reports on the Lexington Rd./Columbia East project. Fortunately, there is a single PDF of the "short-term" plan that is being implemented.
http://www.waterloo.ca/en/contentresourc...ll_map.pdf
It does show a planned sidewalk, but the actual sidewalk extends farther than is in the image. The image does not show a curb in the place where one is installed, but it's not exactly an engineering diagram.
This whole project just drives me crazy though, basically, all the cycling infrastructure in the area circumvents my workplace in every direction. As a result, I confidently ride past the police station on the sidewalk every weekday of the year.

Hmm...actually, looking at that a second time, the design is very different from the plan.

Seems like that's a lot more work than the original road diet proposed a few years ago.

If you are referring to the curb cut, it appears as if the transition from the bridge onto the trail will be fairly smooth once completed. I also believe that the curb continuation is to channel water into the drain and not onto the trail. I agree that what they did on Glasgow is rediculous! I would never ride on that.

Yes, it definitely is. But the road diet was apparently not something council was willing to implement. As a result, there's no connection between this infrastructure and university without going through uptown or up through McCormick Arena (the Waterloop Trail) planned in the next decade. And this connection has been in the city's bike plan for over 10 years now as a high priority immediate term project.
That being said, I'll give them points, this looks like it will be a fully segregated piece of infrastructure.

Why is it necessary though? The road never had a curb there?
Moreover, it's still a curb, and it's not even a flush curb, it still has a lip large enough, that even the day it's built, when it is the smoothest it will ever be (because a decade from now, it will be much much worse), it will still require a person on a road bike to slow way down, or risk a pinch flat and a wallop in the crotch. The curbs the region insists on putting everywhere are a big reason why the separated infrastructure doesn't work well for road cyclists.

So, the IHT now ends at the sidewalk on Ottawa St. with a grass boulevard and a barrier curb.
Who exactly is building this nonsense?

But there is no trail across the street, is there?
