ION - Waterloo Region's Light Rail Transit
"Most" land is private in some way/shape/form, but there are implied invitations to enter private property. The steps to McDonald's were open to the public for the granting of access to the restaurant. Once that restaurant is closed, with no "colour of right" to enter that property, the law would define an occupant as trespassing. Approaching my front door to sell me girl guide cookies is legally allowed (unless I banned the girl guides Smile ), but coming into my backyard and approaching my kitchen door would be a violation, despite my lack of "No Trespassing" signs and zero (so far) enforcement.

I see both sides of the spat above, and I don't think any of the comments were malicious. If we wanted to infight, we would invite Jay Aissa to the forum! Wink

And of course, I'm currently scheduled to work that day.

At least I have enough lead time to hopefully rearrange...

That reminds me (because I’ve been interested in being able to see the OMSF up close). I had another thought about the railway trespassing issue for you: I think you should count it a success that the issue came up for discussion. You’ve brought the issue into people’s consciousness so that somebody felt a need to recognize the issue when they posted certain photos. So, I believe that you have made a contribution to safety, and I think you would be justified to be proud of that, even if there is still some disagreement on the matter.

I completely agree ijmorlan. There have generally been a lot of really good conversations on here about bike safety, road safety and, of course, railroad safety. I'm also really impressed with how respectful the conversations generally are on here, despite the fact that we don't always see eye to eye.

The best way to fix and put and end to the "walking by the rail tracks" debate is high speed railway. People used to walk by the rails in Germany and there were a large number of un-signalled level crossings. Most of those are gone now, since HST trains (and cars in the autobahn) at > 240Km/h seem to move in heartbeats: you first see it in the distance, hearbeat, look again and it's right behind you, hearbeat, and its way in front of you.

Indeed, I would give up hikes down the tracks in exchange for badly needed HSR service to Union Station! Smile

Let me just put it on the record that I am opposed to trespassing anywhere near HSR tracks!

Not sure if this belongs here, and I'm quite certain it was discussed earlier somewhere here. Anyway, it is an update I think.

The update appears to be that the expropriation process has begun.
