ION - Waterloo Region's Light Rail Transit
Can't go north of Queen to Ontario, or Ontario to Gaukel, or Gaukel to Water, either.

Trackwork through Waterloo Park is now just about complete.

I don't know why I didn't think to pop up here before, but the Parkade in Uptown Waterloo offers great vantage point of construction along King.

The ride up to the third deck is pretty easy, too!

Today they were doing very fine adjustments in the height of the catenary between Bearinger and University. I wonder if they are getting ready to start running some test vehicle.

Not yet!  Still in Thunder Bay.  Next stop:  Millhaven!  Then Waterloo, in about November. (I'll be by Millhaven at least twice in August, so will be sure to report in if it's made it there yet.)

Bummer! My knees gave out at about Seagram; I would have liked to have seen what they were up to. Can you elaborate?

They had three trucks on rails going from dropper to dropper, placing a type of laser leveling equipment and minimally adjusting the height in each location.

Could they use something other than an LRV as a test vehicle? Is there an LRT equivalent of a speeder?

Does that mean we don't need to push construction fences out of the way anymore?

...

Kidding! Smile

Ugh, and yes. I cringe every time I see people doing that.

@KevinL - they'll do a pull-trough test with the actual train before moving under its own power. This verifies platform clearances and correct track/points alignment.

Woo-hoo! The Record actually published my letter.. First time I've done that. Smile

Looks like my imagined Phase 4 to close the loop and send LRT back down King St to Uptown is not going to be happening any time soon!

Nope - those are the anchors for the OCS poles and tensioners. Footers closest to you are for the gusset wire, footers furthest away are for the poles (that have the counterweight mechanism on them).

Also, it's going to be a very abrupt stop if the driver overshoots the platform!

I think you know his already, but just in case, there will be a fixed buffer stop at the end of the line.

Yes, it won't actually hit the column, but there's still very little space to overshoot!
