by complete coincidence I happened to discover the coffee shop that is moving into the main floor of the building! It starts with 'S', but it's not Starbucks... and that's a good thing - I tried the place on a whim and their cappuccino was one of the best I've ever had! this will be their expansion to a 2nd location.

Settlement Co.? That would be a very fast jump from no operations to dual operations. Have any local coffee shops had success with this? Matter of Taste had a Waterloo Shops location, but when it closed (due to high rent demands, I believe), they never saw reason to get back into a second location.

Or Second Cup Undecided

Maybe a sign for Seattle's Best?

Not if it's a second location for an established entity.

Are you keeping it a secret for a reason? Sad

A quick Google turns up only Smile Tiger, and Seven Shores as the local coffee places beginning with an S without a second store.

Most likely Settlement Co.
One of the owner's told me he was opening up another location downtown Kitchener, along with another Abe Erb in the Tannery (exactly what space I'm not sure).

The owner told me that Abe Erb will be opening at the Tannery in June, in the corner unit next to the hair salon facing Victoria.

I predict the Firkin gets slaughtered.  I thought for sure they were going to take that space over....

Firkin will need to up their game.  There are enough potential customers, but complacency will indeed get them slaughtered.

I really like the Firkin. When we lived at the Kaufman Lofts, we'd walk over there once a week or so.

I think a few units of One Victoria might be occupied! I just drove by and lights and a TV was on in a corner unit on the 4th floor, and on the side facing Victoria, a unit on the 2nd floor was dimly lit.

The side lighting with the up/down indirect lighting looks fantastic.

Definitely starting occupation. I think the lowest corner unit at King/Vic is occupied, at least two others with Victoria-facing windows, and then another 2-4 on King. I can see some of the people from my window.

99.9% confirmed that Settlement Co. is opening at One Vic!

The bad news is that I heard this would happen in the second half of the year Sad... hopefully much sooner!

I really think they should have opened a Starbucks or a Williams.

I think it will be really nice to see an independent here. Settlement seems like a nice place- and, unlike Starbucks, it serves alcohol.

While I agree with you that I would prefer to see a Settlement Co here, I believe Starbucks is set to start serving alcohol this year in Canada.
