Weber Street Reconstruction - College to Union

Fences were complete on the West side a few days ago, and this morning, replacement started on the East side! I guess they ARE doing both after all!

I was stopped at the light here yesterday in heavy traffic and looked over, and by golly, they're done now!

I think we can finally say, officially, that this project is now 100% complete!

Not quite. There's a smaller second fence on the west side that runs next to the sidewalk that goes to Breithaupt St that still has temporary fencing.

Yeah, it's a new feature of the replacement railings!
Still not done!

I wonder which project will be completed first?  ion, or the railings at the Weber grade separation? Shall we place bets?  Big Grin

(also: who thought placing steel flatbar in a horizontal plane like that would be a suitable orientation for a structural railing?!  One person sits or stands on that and it's bent.  Boooo!)

Is that intended to be a railing or is it intended to be seating? Looks more like a narrow bench to me.

I can't imagine why there would need to be a 4 inch wide bench, 3 feet off the ground along the length of an underpass...

Me neither, but I can't see any reason for there to be a railing there either.  Seems an odd-looking thing.

Maybe the wires didn't meet code, and the bar is an afterthought as a way to add the bare minimum to make it pass?

That is kinda weird... you'd think they'd check the design against code before building it all eh? Not exactly the most comfortable looking bench either...

The wires are kind of suprising actually. I don't think they would meet code for residential construction, as they are too easy to climb, and the "handrail" doesn't help. Must be different rules in this case.
What is the height on the "handrail" maybe in is intended as a bumper for stollers/wheelchairs/etc? It looks quite low. The fact that it is not continuous really argues against it being a handrail.
