I think it depends on the establishment. I’ve sometimes had success parking and going in to get my food. In and out quickly while the car lineup moves along slowly.
This has much to do with the timer that is on drive thru orders. It's human nature for the staff to feel like their performance is being monitored (and it probably is), so try to keep that timer short. Whereas walk-ins don't have a timer...
