General Urban Kitchener Updates and Rumours
HIP is the developer though, I take it like it will be bigger than what is proposed for 624 King

Karl-Zehr-Platz (err, Carl Zehr Plaza) closed off now -- although it's for COVID-19, not reconstruction yet.

Does the Hygge have it's own thread yet?

No, it's for construction. https://kitchener.ctvnews.ca/constructio...-1.4874997

Ironically, this will be a good year to redo the square.

It's in support of healthcare workers (based on the signs a lot of the cars have).

What a ridiculous way to "support" something... can't people just clang pots together?

I bring out my brass elephant bell for my neighbourhood's weekly clang (I'll see your banging pot and raise you ....) Wink

I was at Grand River Hospital for treatment when this happened.  It was loud and noisy and every nurse who could went to the windows and watched for a minute or two.  From what I gathered, the nurses thought it was cool and appreciated the support.

Cool overhead view of downtown from the Snowbirds fly over.

Walking around yesterday, I noticed what looked like the entire block of Queen S. (from 112 - 84) to the corner of Charles was not only temporarily closed by completely vacated. Peaked in the windows and looked like some were under interior demo - did not look like the same tenant was planning to return. Of course the situation for small business is challenging right now - anyone know what's going on? I always liked the buildings on this block - just needs updating and some love. Also, Coffee Culture (Queen/King corner) was full of construction equipment. A local resident told me "it's finished." I wasn't sure what to believe?!

Re Coffee Culture, do you mean "finished" as in out of business? Re the block to the south, some of those premises have been empty for years, no?

Pearl Laundry has been vacant for years. There are a couple of other vacancies but also some small businesses in that block. At least the last time I looked it was not completely vacated.
