Love that photo - really shows how this will fill in the street wall. It's a real tragedy that we lost the original Mayfair, but this will be a worthy replacement.

And with the other new condo building on the other side of the building next door, that whole block will be much more complete. I just hope the new buildings actually engage with the sidewalk. If they do, the street-level experience will be much as it was before the older buildings on those sites were lost.

I can't recall whether it was ever made clear whether the ground floor would include commercial space, or whether it's to be office space.

It should be better. The Mayfair had only a half-length retail store front on King St (plus a steel door for its own entrance), and the Young St side was essentially a blank wall, so there was minimal engagement. The heritage building design was attractive, yes, but it was not exactly engaging.

To be totally honest, I actually forgot what it looked like

I never found the old building to be that interesting. The addition on the top two floors of the original structure almost killed any heritage value it had for me as they clashed, so when it was demolished and everyone was mourning the loss of a heritage building I could only wonder what people saw in it to begin with.

Edit: Now I miss Casablanca Books that was nextdoor.

Me too!  That place was great.

It's really looking good; I think our office needs to move into this building!

Does anyone know what the pillars are wrapped in? And why only some?

I imagine it's just a layer of something to protect them from smudges and scratches during construction.  Maybe some fell off, and nobody's paying enough attention to replacing them?

Yeah it's a plastic wrap that tears off.

Picture from yesterday.  It looks like the last floor is going up.

Is it just me or are wooden beams being used where steel beams would be otherwise?
