ION - Waterloo Region's Light Rail Transit
(12-12-2016, 01:37 PM)Markster Wrote: It's not so easy, because of the buried electrical box on the north side of University, that prohibits the trail running in any kind of "straight" . It will be an expensive fix, considering they just did work on that electrical stuff 2 years ago, and are unlikely to move it now.

I was referring to the grass at the University Ave crosswalk, between the crossing and the pedestrian button.  It can easily be replaced with concrete.  (Yes, still not an ideal place for the button but really it's not that far.

@tomh009 he was probably referring to my comment.

@markster yes I see the box. Its a real shame that we won't do the right thing.

I'm looking forward to seeing something like this next year. (Watch at least until the 1m mark)

Won't have to wait till next year - just wait for spur line testing in a few short weeks! Big Grin

Psst... next year is just a few short weeks away

The first train will be here by end of December or early January. So in a couple of weeks!
Reply
Yeah, which is next year! :-)

But, seriously, I must have missed that. Where did you get the information that the first train could be here by end of December?

The last we heard about that is that Tom Galloway, after his visit to Bombardier, was saying a December delivery seemed unlikely. Bombardier's revised delivery schedule had it arriving this month.

How long will it take to get each subsequent train?

Trains 2-14 are being produced in Millhaven, with 15 days between deliveries, starting in about May (120 days to produce each LRV).

Sadly we have just passed what was supposed to have been a major milestone. According to a May 2016 report that seems to reference the original "agreement" trains 2 to 14 were supposed to have been here 10-Dec-2016 which means late fees are now being applied to all 14 trains now. I think it was about a week after this report that news of the revised schedule broke setting the completion date for all 14 back 10 months to October of 2017.

On August 20, 2013 the Region entered into an Agreement with Bombardier Transportation Canada Inc. (“Bombardier”) for the purchase of 14 Light Rail Vehicles in connection with the Light Rail Transit Project (the “Agreement. The Agreement includes delivery of the first light rail vehicle by “no earlier than May 1, 2016 and no later than August 15, 2016” and delivery of the second to fourteenth vehicle by December 10, 2016.
Everyone move to the back of the bus and we all get home faster.

Probably mentioned somewhere in the previous 400+ pages in this thread but what is the penalty clause between the Region and Bombardier for late delivery?
Reply
$1500/day/vehicle, to a maximum of $3.3M.

(First vehicle is now early Feb BTW. Ugh)

So based on that schedule: 14 vehicles x 10 months x 30 days/mo x $1500/day  = 6M+

That's taking some liberties (with my math) but really starting to add up.
Reply
But it's capped at $3.3M.
