ION - Waterloo Region's Light Rail Transit

That's right; in your photos, you can see the pulleys hanging off of the catenary arms. These are just used for pulling the two wires: The messenger wire, and the contact wire. The messenger wire sags between the arms in a catenary curve - hence the name catenary. Smaller wires hang down off the messenger wire, like a suspension bridge, and support the contact wire.

I've been keeping an eye on the news outlets; CTV, The Record, etc, and none of them have dropped their inevitable piece about the LRV delay. I am guessing they're holding off until Monday AM to make it as dramatic and awful-sounding as possible. I wish I wasn't so pessimistic about the news, but unfortunately as I get older I have learned that they care very little about what they're reporting, and rather, care more about how stirred up they can get people. KCI's Stairs and Ramp are complete They just need to repair the lawn and put a sidewalk in (They also need to put the William Lyon Mackenzie Statue and the School sign back) Does anyone know why there are so many traffic lights between Green St. And Union St? They added a set at the Main Entrance to Grand River Hospital and ones at Mt.Hope St. (so now there are 5 sets of traffic lights between those streets) I thought traffic lights had to be spaced out more so there wouldn't be traffic jams, that's the excuse for the intersection of Victoria and Patricia not having lights anyways, IMO that intersection is way overdue for Traffic lights.

Thanks for the photos! I can't quite tell - does it look like they've started laying any yard track yet at the OMSF?

I'm not sure why they took the sides off the dome; there are still tonne of tarps and heaters working hard to keep it warm and it was -15 with windchill the other night and more snow and cold due today.

The new staircase in front of KCI is impressive, although I wish there were a bit less exposed concrete.  I wonder if the WLMK statue will be re-installed front and centre, or over on what's left of the grassy hill?

Nice shot of the corduroy road. Walked by there yesterday and there 4 people excavating with shovels. I asked how they were coming along, and she said they were almost done, so perhaps this will be cleared up and they'll start back to work on this section.

Thanks for all of the photo updates everyone!!

The amount of brick on the KCI stairs is disappointing. Was hoping the entire facade would be covered. Just looks unfinished right now.

I hope the concrete gets some further treatment, it doesn't look that great as raw as it is.

Love seeing the full school name on the brick, has my Raider alumnus heart all aflutter.

A design decision they made is that any intersection that allows traffic across the LRT right-of-way requires signals. Since that area has a lot of required access points (2 hospital entrances, local streets) it just means it adds up. Ideally, the LRT will have some amount of signal priority, which means that cars going alongside will get to ride the green wave along with it.
