Franklin Rd bridge yes. The interchange has not though. It will be all directions following the reconstruction. Right now it only has an on ramp westbound and a off ramp eastbound.

(That is unless plans have changed recently)

And the ramps only connect to the south direction of Franklin — southbound from the off ramp, northbound to the on ramp. Anybody using Franklin north of the 401 needs to do a U-turn at the roundabout to use the interchange.

Correct, though given the roundabout is right there I dont know if they'll be changing that. The docs for the project have east west access to the 401 for sure though.

The Franklin ramps are to stay as they are as far as I know, realigned to work with the widened highway only.

LOL @ highway 401 lanes (rated for 120 km/h) being 3.75 meters wide, while our region insists that residential streets meant to carry traffic at 50km/h couldn't possibly be narrower than 3.65 meters.

I thought this was the Highway 401 thread?

If that’s a reference to Dan’s mention of lane widths on the 401, and comparing them to the lane widths the Region incorrectly believes are required elsewhere, then I don’t see a problem with his comment, although I do agree that if a lengthy discussion of lane widths ensues that would belong in a different area.

I apologize you appear to be right. I could swear I saw a document at one point that had full access planned for the interchange. It was likely pre Ford government though so maybe that changed, or maybe it never was and I'm going insane

Slightly outside the scope of this thread... anyone know what work has been happening eastbound 401 through the 6's the past few weeks? Anything related to the fuel spill, Conc. 7 overpass or other?

RE: Highway 401 Widening - Highway 8 to Townline Road - jamincan - 12-04-2020

I believe they've just been working on repairs to the median barrier in that stretch. The left east-bound lane has been closed for some time now, but the west-bound direction has mostly been unaffected except for the occasional lane closure.

A few notes:

Clearing has started between King and the river on the north side of the highway.

It looks like there's a full closure of the 401 at Hespeler coming next weekend (the signs were inconsistent, so date may not be confirmed). I'm assuming this is to remove one of the Hespeler spans, but can't seem to find details in a quick search.

This is going to be a nightmare. Way more so than the previous widening.

I rarely drive in that direction, so I really don't know ... but why do you feel that it will be a nightmare?

Itll be a nightmare with the hespeler rd bridge and ramps closed for who knows how long. Hespeler road carries a ridiculous amount of traffic, and is the main arterial road in cambridge. Franklin only has a 2 way interchange with the 401, so you are going to have a ridiculous amount of traffic travelling on pinebush and holiday inn drive/Jamison parkway. Franklin and town line will also be affected to an extent by the windening construction. Itll just turn cambridge traffic into a nightmare, because these roads are just not designed for the traffic they're about to take and the lack of multiple easy detour routes means everyone is going the same long way out of their way.

That said the highway traffic should be fine I'd imagine

Reduced demand is also often a thing. There have been a lot of predictions of traffic-geddon when capacity is removed from highway systems and then not so much when it actually happens.
