Semi-related, though, there appears to be a recent proposal (January 2021) for 211-215 Queen Street West which is just up the street. It's a proposal to redevelop the old textile factory into a residential and retail complex using the existing factory structures. It actually looks pretty good: https://www.cambridge.ca/en/build-invest-grow/resources/OR0121---211-215-Queen-St-W/Queen-St.-Urban-Design-Brief---Updated-March-8-2021---Reduced.pdf

I found a bit of information about 180 Groh.

Developer's website (second from the top):

Nimby manufacturer next door:

Tree lovers remorse:

I work in the area and can confirm that there is action on site. Dirt is getting moved.

I think you meant to provide a different link.

I think that the plant owner makes a good case. We need more housing but we also need employment lands. It is not a good idea to drive employers out of the community or to build housing that will subject residents to a lot of noise from industry.

I think we need to make a distinction between industrial lands and employment lands. We should stop separating compatible uses, there's no reason an office tower needs a different district from an apartment tower.

As for his business, "conflicts" that arise aren't his problem, frankly, they're nobody's problem but the idiots who can't stand the noise of a manufacturing business who bought homes next to a manufacturing business (same with the airport, same with the dump).

But if there are reasonable options like building noise barriers, those should absolutely be developed.

But...a bigger question, why is a school next to industrial lands?

The property would back onto several manufacturing companies actually, not just Canada Tool. Hespeler kids don't mind though, they've got trichloroethylene running through their veins.

Bloomingdale development project moved to the townships forum.

RE: General Suburban Updates and Rumours - Lens - 10-27-2021

Someone posted about a few small DTK projects in another thread and it looks like the developer is doing a project on Cameo Drive in Kitchener, near King and River Rd.

I would expect at least a few other projects in the works in this area. I know of at least one rental tower coming along King in this stretch.

New development listed on condo culture, called “The Jake”. It is a mid-rise luxury condo located at 101 Golden Eagle Road in Waterloo.

It was already posted about in  General Urban Cambridge Updates and Rumours with some discussion about it there.

I think this qualifies as "suburbs" instead of "urban Kitchener". A new 4-storey apartment building has been proposed for 234-240 Fredrick Street.

Definitely "urban".

RE: General Suburban Updates and Rumours - panamaniac - 01-26-2022

Here I was thinking it would be a shame to lose the old houses and the developer is proposing to save them! Nice!
