Dunno if there was a specific thread for the buildings at Highland and Ira Needles but they are going up pretty quickly now. Big difference coming in from the country.

Not sure if has been mentioned, but the one Peter Hallman (or whomever owns it now) apartment on Vanier is being painted grey. You can notice it off of the Express Way.

Has anyone heard much about the expansion of the Grand River north neighbourhood expansion? As far as I can tell it's called Sandra Springs. I live nearby and see they've made some decent progress this summer. Here's all I've found online, a ctv video on opposition http://kitchener.ca.granicus.com/MetaViewer.php?view_id=2&clip_id=505&meta_id=28933 and a draft plan from 3 years ago http://kitchener.ca.granicus.com/MetaViewer.php?view_id=2&clip_id=505&meta_id=28933

Groundbreaking for medical building set for Kitchener Frame site

"A second, 30,000-square foot medical building is about 70 per cent leased and its construction is expected to begin in about six months."

Again with the separate buildings. Can’t we have a single district which is designed for maximum mobility? Imagine if the entire Kitchener Frame site was done as one huge building with wings and towers containing everything from apartments to offices to medical clinics to retail, not to mention a retirement residence and long-term care.

I re-posted my post about the Kitchener Frame property in the main thread here:

So like a mall? I think that’s always the best idea in our Canadian climate, but people prefer to drive between buildings than walk between them (even if climate controlled)

Something like that, except that malls don’t usually play well with their neighbours and are usually single-owner. My idea is, let’s build the buildings one against the other and design a public internal circulation network.

Also modern malls usually have at least some of the stores randomly separated from the main building, and don’t usually have any uses other than retail. I want to take the opportunity of planning a single huge site (much bigger than any mall in this city) to arrange for maximum mobility between all the uses on the site.

As to driving vs. walking, that is partly a matter of distance, and driving is not available as an option to many people. That’s why I mention retirement residence and long-term care. Somebody living in one of those would have much more freedom if they could go for a walk to actual destinations without having to contend with weather. That is why I am so unimpressed with the UW north campus retirement residence: it’s across the street from the YMCA/Library. Why couldn’t it be immediately adjoining?

RE: General Suburban Updates and Rumours - jwilliamson - 09-26-2019

The low-rise apartments at 282 Erb W (at the corner with McDougall) have been demolished.

RE: General Suburban Updates and Rumours - Watdot - 09-27-2019

Those demolitions on Erb Street are setting a pretty big stage for development. Nothing in City zone changes yet. Anyone have any info?

It looks like construction has started.
