This is correct, but I'll add that developers are actively attempting to get McDonald's to sell the land. Can't say who.

Rainy day check in on Union Towers…

The centre amenity area overlooking the driveway has received some cladding:

Here it is again along with progress on glass on Tower B:

The construction fence is now gone, with the glass on Breithaupt Block Phase 3 complete in the background and the MPH almost enclosed.

First glimpse of the commercial space and landscaping closest to King that was previously behind construction fencing:

And facing towards the rest of the commercial units / future courtyard:

And a few more of the downtown facing side / commercial spaces…

Tower B and commercial and amenity spaces are coming together:

A wide angle shot to capture both towers:

Here you can see on the lower floors of Tower A that they’re cladding the front of the balcony slabs. The middle wider balcony section has white cladding while the right side narrow balcony has black cladding (perhaps white on the bottom side). In my opinion, this looks much cleaner and finished compared to the raw concrete balconies on other builds such as Charlie West and 100/Garment Street:

Ooof, how many different materials do they have going on the courtyard side. Looks like a strip mall

Yea not sure about the red… but I’ll let them finish it and before forming my final opinion

I agree the red was not a good choice. It looks bulky and out of place. It will also age horribly. They were so close to producing a decent podium in the region, but couldn't resist the draw of a power centre.

It looks a little chaotic now, but once those units are occupied I suspect the effect will be similar to the outside of the mall on Willis Way. IMO, a good thing -- commercial areas look more interesting when each storefront is distinct.

Why would red brick "age horribly"?

Its not the red brick, its the red aluminum panels. The red will fade over time due to UV. Vancouver built a couple towers with these type of coloured aluminum panels in the early 00's. Within ten years they looked very dated. If they had stuck with brick I think it would have looked better.  I also am not a fan of the jogs in and outs of the storefronts. looks like there are trying too hard to make it look like the spaces are "different", and built over various time periods like how a 19/20th century commercial strip looks, but they are all clearly part of the same podium. Don't get me wrong, I think this is one of the nicest podium in the region, but I don't think the bar has been set very high.

I'm not a fan of some of the material choices on the podium - i.e. the red metal - but the brick does a fair job at complimenting the old "mansion" next to the two buildings. Overall this entire project will be nice when it's done, since the next phase will have 2 distinctly designed skyscrapers and the final phase is going to be the most unique building out of the entire project.

As for the metal itself, we'll have to see how well it ages. I believe they are using ALPOLIC Materials and they make some alright siding.

Seems like balconies are lagging behind quite a bit.

I’d expect they’re not really a priority. Getting the building enclosed allows them to push through interior work. The balcony glass likely just takes a few screws to install.

September for Tower A as of now

How good is the confidence for a Sept 7th move in from now? We're on 3rd floor...

Those podiums seem to get uglier each time I see a new picture. They're such a mish-mash of random materials and colours...I wish architects could be more consistent haha. I understand that condos rarely have good podiums because they're usually not given great importance, but still, I much prefer things to be much cleaner and minimalistic, like the Lago building in Toronto for example.
