RE: Trails - jwilliamson - 07-28-2019 There's some new artwork on the stretch of the Iron Horse Trail between Park and Caroline. Great fact! Where did it come from? Source? Primary research. I was involved, I saw who came and objected, I saw their driveways personally. To be fair, that looks nothing like the original proposal, which didn't include the asphalt component and was therefore terrible cycling infra. Also to be fair, the “complainers” are well justified in being skeptical of anything the City or Region does around cycling infrastructure. When is the last time the final result was significantly better than what people feared halfway through construction? Indeed, even in this particular case, the very fact that the trail has been moved is because active transportation infrastructure is not thought of as important. The development could have been done as two triangular buildings on either side of the pre-existing trail, possibly with its exact route slightly adjusted (e.g., to straighten out the original railway curve). But instead, Council saw fit to agree to the developer’s request to detour a transportation route around their development. Would they have agreed to do that if the route in question was King St. instead of the Iron Horse Trail? RE: Trails - creative - 07-29-2019 Complainers are going to complain! RE: Trails - danbrotherston - 07-30-2019 It's also not all sun and rainbows, the section along Caroline still has a driveway entrance with huge flaired wide crossing and curbs for no reason. And people who think people are “complainers” if they want the city to be better than it is are going to spout irrelevant slogans. RE: Trails - creative - 07-30-2019 Like “NIMBY”? RE: Trails - KevinL - 07-30-2019 Among the province's announced transportation funding ( https://news.ontario.ca/moi/en/2019/07/ontario-government-nominates-16-region-of-waterloo-transit-projects-to-the-federal-government-for-fu.html ) is $3.2 million for the Strasburg-Avalon bridge over the Parkway, $250k for a trail along Lackner, and $940k for a trail from St. Jacobs Market to Northfield station. Another $420k is earmarked for road crossing and wayfinding improvements on the Iron Horse. RE: Trails - kps - 07-30-2019 It's a bit disappointing that the spur line trail doesn't run the entire length of the line. RE: Trails - creative - 08-05-2019 I rode the Iron Horse this morning through the part under construction. First coat of paving is down between Queen and Kent. Lighting bases are in from Queen to Mill. RE: Trails - goggolor - 08-05-2019 You're still allowed to ride through the part under construction? I've stopped going to Shortfinger/Wooden Boat Food during the trail construction because I don't like the idea of biking down Courtland (the city's official detour route). Is the trail Queen to Kent ridable? RE: Trails - creative - 08-05-2019 (08-05-2019, 06:24 PM)goggolor Wrote: You're still allowed to ride through the part under construction?
