My wife and I stopped by last weekend for the grand opening. It was very well attended, and I was surprised at the quality of the fireworks show. I'll definitely be in attendance next year.

With the holidays approaching events slow down a bit. Nonetheless there are a few nice things coming this way for this period. The event of the week this time is the reopening of Maxwell's, the main venue for indie music in the region:

Hear ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas, accompanied by the full orchestra, along with Sleigh Ride, Yes, Virginia — There is a Santa Claus and more! Since the Kultrún World Music Festival (July 7-9) doesn't have its own thread, I thought I'd give this one a (long overdue!) bump.  Looks like they have put together a pretty ambitious program (plus a new food truck!).  Isabel Cisterna (Neruda Arts) deserves a lot of credit for her contributions to the local cultural scene.

We'll be there on Saturday.  And yes, Kitchener is very fortunate to have an event like this.

Will be going this afternoon (unfortunately could not go to the Friday gala event). Need to check out the food, too!

This promises to be an interesting event.

Quote:Overview

Dubbed the Region’s ‘biggest outdoor dance party,’ Kultrún is a family-friendly celebration of diversity featuring local, national and international world music bands, all-ages interactive activities, workshops by professional artists, performance art, a food, craft and art market and a beer garden cantina. This year’s line-up includes high-energy trad-folk Québécois bands, Moroccan gospel, flamenco, Afro and Latin jazz, Brazilian forró and lots more fantastic world music! Excepting a ticked opening Gala July 8th at TheMuseum, Kultrún is a FREE festival taking place July 9-10 in Downtown Kitchener’s Victoria Park. The Festival runs Saturday from 12noon - 11pm and Sunday from 12noon - 9pm.
