That being said, we still don't know why they closed. While I don't think they were a runaway success, I do get the sense there was a little more to it than that.

Limited selection of niche items --> few customers --> limited selection --> few customers ...

Somehow one would need to break out of that loop. For sure, the times that I was there, it would be rare to see more than one or two other people doing grocery shopping at the same time as I was.

Indeed the location was convenient but not visible. The space was lovely but there was no promotion. Products were good but there were few choices.

Until we get a real urban-format supermarket, we make do with a combination of shops: SDM, New City, Legacy Greens, BT, Tienda Latina and Hasty Market. Between them, you can get most things, it's just not one-stop shopping. And depending on where in DTK you live, Central, Sobey's, Food Basics, Valu-Mart (by LRT).

It takes BIG money to set up and run a store along the line intended and to succeed in the long run in any retail venture.. Their effort was admirable but their pockets were not deep enough to outlast the issues noted above. Sad but true

The Petro Canada gas station at Ottawa and River Rd is closed for improvements right now. It looks like the tanks and pumps are all being replaced.

Any one know about the place that has opened beside Golden Hearth bakery on King St. It looks like it's called Special Delivery and has coffee and a rack of clothing.

RE: General Retail News - GtwoK - 09-23-2019

It's run by the same guy as Show+Tell (and previously brch)

RE: General Retail News - nms - 09-26-2019

I'm not sure if this is the best place, but I notice that the Walper Barbers have relocated to part of the old corner store building at Water and Joseph in Kitchener.

Did they salvage their old stations?  I had a strange love/hate relationship with that turquoise melamine!

Yeah, just a single rack. Vintage ("vintage") stuff, ie, choice items found at value village and resold at an upcharge

Lowes will be closing the RONA on Pinebush Rd in Cambridge, effective January 31, 2020. One of 34 stores being closed across the nation.

RE: General Retail News - KevinL - 11-20-2019

I'm surprised it lasted that long, with a Lowe's just a block away.
