It is. There was a lot of discussion here when it was first proposed due to neighbourhood objections (they didn't want a drive-thru at a place backing onto backyards).

Ah I see okay. Is there a wire or solid fence breaking up this land (and to-be A&W) and the backyards? I suppose listening to the drive-through intercom at all hours of the day from your deck/patio could get annoying LOL

There is supposed to be a 2.4-metre wooden fence installed, and the restaurant is being situated as far from the neighbouring houses as possible.

Objections about drive thrus aside, if there's going to be one, along Ottawa here seems like the right location.

An article in the Record re the renovation project at 87 King St W indicates that the main floor will be occupied by a Wineology wine bar/restaurant. They're a small chain from down Windsor way. https://www.wineologybar.ca/

Abe Erb has been teasing a third location on their instagram story for the past few days, but haven't been able to piece together where. One picture had a liquor license application in the window thoigh; anybody notice / hear anything about this?

I was in Ayr ON last weekend and surprised to see one there. Not sure if it was open but definitely signage.

Ayr? Interesting. The announcement I saw had Guelph for the third, so if they open in Ayr that makes 4.

I'm not surprised, the opinion seemed to be pretty universal that the food wasn't good. There's lots of better options downtown these days.
When it was the Firkin it suffered the same problem. They had basically the same type of food as McCabe's, but charged 20% more with worse quality.
It's a large location that won't be easy to fill, not helped by being off King St. I just hope that prospective tenants don't think it's an unworkable location, when the real issue was the food.

Worst restaurant meal I've ever had was at the Firkin - a "beef stroganoff" special of the day that, to this day, I am convinced was Hamburger Helper.

Abe & Erb proves that the location is workable, though that competition is part of the reason Taste at the Tannery couldn't thrive with their subpar offerings. Both restaurants are accessible from inside the building which means there's a significant population of Communitech-housed companies and D2L to draw from but when Abe & Erb is regularly slammed and Taste at the Tannery is regularly empty, the problem is pretty clearly the restaurant and not the location.
I am hopeful the rebrand is something interesting, it's a very convenient location for me and I'd love to feel drawn there but as long as the kitchen is run by Bingeman's I'm going to be pretty wary.

Saw in the Record tonight that Monigram coffee is expanding to open a location "downtown" within the next few weeks-- though really, it's midtown. In the grungy looking office building next to the old McDonald's at King and Moore. Extremely odd location, especially given their wonderful buildings in Cambridge and their positioning as high end coffee. But they brew a good cup, and the owners are wonderful, so I'm sure I'll still be worth a checkout!
