Waterloo's iconic 86-year old Harmony Lunch is up for sale for $1.4 million.  The price is in the land but if I had a million (or two) it would be nice to keep this place going.  100-year old McPhail's Cycle and Sport shares a common wall with the building.

Pretty safe to say that anyone dropping 1.4 mil on the property will not be in the restaurant business, which is sad. Sad

That's going to be a real shame to see Harmony gone. I suppose all good things must come to an end, but that place is really special.

I know it's just the "asking", but that seems an astonishing amount for a site of that size and location.

How big is the property? It doesn't really seem like a super-premium location for uptown.

0.2 acres, so not large by any means.

Well, keep in mind that Ste. Sophia church asked $2.2 million for 0.22 acres and that wasn't even within the Uptown commercial zone.

It seems that Uptown 21 will be ceasing regular dining service, as of the end of August. It looks like they'll be open for lunch and catering. Too bad, they were one of my favourites.

They also didn't manage to sell at that price -- even though the property would have been useful for the neighbouring development.

So I think that $1.4M for 0.2 acres is just as unrealistic.

Is it true that Pioneer BBQ has closed? They make Harmony Lunch look like new kids on the block. Sad if it is so.

It's true.

I've been to Belmont Village three times in the last two weeks. It seems to be coming together very nicely, however in my mind it needs another two more blocks of businesses to really become a destination. Given the layout this doesn't seem to be easy to achieve, but here's hoping that somehow this comes to pass.

RE: General Food, Dining and Nightlife News - Elmira Guy - 08-25-2016

Pioneer BBQ was sold and bought awhile back and they had a slew of serious health code violations. I've also heard that the building is now structurally unsound.
Very unfortunate that a local place which such history was left to go to pot by indifferent ownership who didn't see fit to abide by health regulations.

Belmont Village needs a pub. Will be interesting to see how the catalyst development around the corner changes things, but right now it's pretty dead after about 7 PM.
