Seemed like a perfect business for that location, sad to see.

The Waterloo Region History Museum is hosting a Fathers Day Craft Beer Festival on Sunday, June 21st from 11am to 5pm.   The Festival will be held in conjunction with the opening weekend of BEER! The Exhibit, which will run until January 3, 2016.  There will be eight area craft brewers on site.  Seems like the best reason ever to get out to visit the history museum and Pioneer Village.

Also note that a 1 year membership to the museum isn't that expensive and gives you unlimited free access to the museum and a bunch of others across Ontario.

That includes free admission to the Sunday music series from 1pm to 3pm on Sundays in July and August, among many other events.  I think rych mills will be giving a talk at some point this summer as well - he is amazingly well informed about local (especially Kitchener) history.

A liquour licence application has appeared in the window of the former Ceasaria Restaurant, on King W between Water and Francis St. Indoor and outdoor, which will make for three patios on the street in that block in addition to McCabes (yet to open) rooftop patio. Nice!

It's sad that Japanese food is being driven down to the lowest common denominator (AYCE) in Kitchener-Waterloo ...

Did anyone go to the first Hump Day at the Duke Food Block last Wednesday evening? I was wondering what the turnout was like. If not DFB, was there any noticeable increase in the crowd at other Downtown venues participating in the new promotion?

To be fair, Kinkaku Izakaya is very good. Of the newer places to open, Watami Sushi and Linhai Sushi are not AYCE, though yes, AYCE is very popular and hard to compete with.

Maybe we'll get lucky and Niko Niko will be replaced by a proper Mexican or a Moroccan restaurant. Either would be a welcome addition to the Downtown selection, I would think.

Hear hear! There is more to Mexican cuisine than burritos and tacos! Not that I dislike either. Smile

There really isn't a ton of high quality Japanese food to show people how good it can be, thus people go to AYCE

Yes!!

When I think about it, there could be a good bit of "food and drink" action Downtown in the coming year - The Berlin, a replacement for Niko Niko, a replacement for Marisol (I don't see the location as being a problem), and the coming Moretti pub, along with whatever is slowly happening at the old Hive. Not bad!

Kinkaku was very nice, and they still have a decent take-out menu, but I really have no interest in AYCE dinner.  It's not what an izakaya should be, either: it should be all about "nominication" (communication over drinks, with food to complement that).

I really should try Watami.  Linhai is pretty far out of the way for me, so I may not make it there.

Niko Niko has decent sushi.

But to paraphrase Section ThirtyOne, there is more to Japanese cuisine than sushi and teriyaki chicken.  Kinkaku demonstrated some of that, but it has now been shunted to the take-out menu.
