Not to mention London, Reykjavik, Dublin, Glasgow, and Frankfurt.

Does Halifax connect to all of those??

Absolutely! At the very least, it signals Westjet's confidence in the market here and suggests that the YYC-YKF route is profitable.

If WestJet had confidence, I wouldn't of had to read this last week:

Yes,  that is very disappointing.  I cant help but think we don't have the right people running our airport.  We seem to consistently loose out on new service.  There has to be a common denominator.  I cant help but think that the management doesn't entrust the confidence of prospective companies.  I have no direct proof..

I think people around here just over estimate the attraction of Waterloo to airlines and the general public. As much as Pearson is a pain, its still relatively close and offers way more flexibility than an airport like Waterloo can ever offer. We're still a reasonable distance to Hamilton and London too. It's not like we're in this great vast desert of no airline options. It's the opposite really.

I agree on this. And we don't know what carrots London and Hamilton are offering to attract airlines to their airports.

Fully agree. I'm willing to find a way to Pearson if it means avoiding a stopover, but that's just my own personal travel preference.

And if you're still trying to play the frequent-flier game, Pearson is much more useful than YKF. (Low-cost airlines don't help at all here, so the only flights that get points are WestJet). The airlines have been working on making that game not very fun anymore though.

It's a race to the bottom.

I fly a lot (mostly for work), so I do accumulate miles. But there are no "free flights" any more, and the value of miles is slowly eroding. I find the primary benefit of the programs to be the status, which gets you priority check-in/security/boarding/luggage, lounge access and some occasional upgrades. But for sure this games isn't as much fun as it used to be.

Did anyone else get an ear worm of "Eight days a week..."?

I wonder which day they'll add a flight.

Hmmm....

RE: Region of Waterloo International Airport - YKF - panamaniac - 02-09-2019

Stay tuned indeed - I can’t believe that one of the low cost carriers isn’t going to be tempted to try a competition-free route out of YKF eventually.

RE: Region of Waterloo International Airport - YKF - Canard - 02-09-2019

The cynic in me learned years ago from the ion team to equate “stay tuned” with “pretend I just didn’t say anything, because there will be no news for the foreseeable future”
