This quote from Jetlines CEO, in a CBC report from today:

"We're going to have a base hub in southern Ontario, either Hamilton or Kitchener," said Gradek. "Or or maybe even both, so all of our flights will originate or terminate in southern Ontario on a daily basis."

The report goes on to note that Jetlines has not yet raised the capital it needs, something I had not realized.

Any venture capitalists out there?  Jetlines could use your investment.

I really hope they succeed, but its definitely not a company I'd be jumping to invest in.

Unfortunately, VCs don't usually invest in that type of company: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_NrLQnmCBw

One is reminded of Richard Branson: "If you want to be a millionaire, start with a billion dollars and start a new airline." Wink

I saw something yesterday that Westjet has not decided that Calgary will be the base for its new ULCC, which is supposed to be up and running by mid-2018. Maybe they can go to Hamilton, jetlines can come to YKF, and everybody's happy!

WestJet looking for airports outside of just Calgary for it's new low cost brand. I'd love to see this at YKF.

“WestJet’s ultra-low-cost carrier may be based outside of Calgary as we are also considering locations that would allow us to take advantage of lower-cost markets,” spokesperson Lauren Stewart wrote in an email to Global News.

ETA - Panamaniac and I on the same page this morning.

I'd take Westjet ULCC over Jetlines for YKF in a heartbeat. Why? Westjet has funding, and can both start and sustain operations.

Of course, Jetlines has a different take on this.  According to CEO Stan Gadek:

Quote:"I do believe WestJet is going to try the ultra-low-cost carrier strategy, but I also believe they’re going to fail," he said. "They do not have the necessary cost for this to be successful, and they don’t have the culture in place to make it work."

I too would be happy if WestJet (or anyone for that matter) chose YKF for their ULCC.  They have served YKF for many years and they would know if YKF is the right place for them.

Dare I hope for a Montreal flight? I'm moving there in a week, so getting back here without a transfer would be greatly appreciated!

Contact them and ask.  The more locals that show support for YKF may help them influence their decision!
