RE: Cycling in Waterloo Region - GtwoK - 06-28-2018

Just moving some construction pylons out of the way in order to facilitate parking in a bike lane!!

Seriously  is anything going to be done about this? Maybe someone could buy some large "I'm a fucking asshole" stickers to slap on the windshield

RE: Cycling in Waterloo Region - Canard - 06-28-2018

I’m convinced at this point it is the City’s plan to simply never complete this project and just let it drag out forever, so they never have to start ticketing.

RE: Cycling in Waterloo Region - GtwoK - 06-28-2018

Given a previous discussion in the parking thread, if it is not legally possible to tow a vehicle parked on your property without you first having "no parking" signage up, maybe its worth following one of these bike lane parking assholes home and block their driveway. If they don't have consideration for blocking others vehicles, maybe I don't have consideration for blocking theirs Smile

UpTown Waterloo Streetcape Project
  • Appears to be complete?
  • Construction barrels everywhere still, at random.
  • Only demarcation currently on any bike lanes is the one small stretch just North of the tracks, on the SB lanes - one depressed section of the concrete, which looks like it might one day be painted?

It won't be complete until after the "street furniture" is installed. Still awaiting planters, benches, and (most importantly to me) bike racks.

Yeah, I totally remember how roads remain closed until street furniture is installed when under construction...

RE: Cycling in Waterloo Region - Canard - 07-01-2018

Does anyone know the actual date when the UpTown Waterloo Bike Lanes will be open (and ticketing enforced)?

The City of Kitchener has been doing some work for the past several months on the bridge on Old Mill down by Conestoga. It has thus far been passable and open for pedestrians and cyclists during reconstruction, but this morning I made it through with 2 minutes to spare! It'll be closed July 3-6 from 7am-5pm.

Thanks for the heads-up! It's nice they are re-opening it when there isn't work happening.

RE: Cycling in Waterloo Region - Pheidippides - 07-04-2018

The counterflow lane at Waterloo city centre has been painted:

Also, groups of three rectangular patches about 150m apart were cleaned and outlined in rough with white paint on the separated cycling lanes in uptown. I am guessing that is a precursor to the actual lane markings getting applied.

RE: Cycling in Waterloo Region - welltoldtales - 07-05-2018

I am a co-host of the Ward 10 ride. We will be going downtown. We are starting at the Breithaupt Centre, riding to the Spurline then across to the core and eventually up to East Ave. 10km in total.
