Waterloo Region Wish List 2019 - Spokes - 12-20-2018

Waterloo Region Wish List 2019

Every holiday season, everyone has a wish list.  So too do the residents of Waterloo Region.

As we get ready to turn the calendar to 2019, what is on your wish list for Waterloo Region?  What are the things that you want to see most this coming year?

RE: Waterloo Region Wish List 2019 - Spokes - 12-20-2018

I'll start things off:

1. An on time launch for ION with great usage numbers from the start
2. TRULY Segregated bike lanes
3. Pedestrian scramble pilot project
4. Two Way Both Way GO train commitment
5. 40 storey condo tower announcement for downtown Kitchener

RE: Waterloo Region Wish List 2019 - panamaniac - 12-20-2018

The return of Wednesday Markets.
A proposal for a supermarket in DTK.
The Museum meets its expansion fundraising goal (a stretch, I know, but deep pocketed tech types have come through in the past).
Somebody opens a coffee shop in the DFB.

1. A significant affordable housing project with a large number of units, good proximity to transit
2. Excellent first year for ION - high ridership, no accidents, just good things
3. A real plan for clear sidewalks
4. No cyclist or pedestrian deaths from motor vehicles. Since that won't happen, some commitment to vision zero or at least acknowledgment that the problem starts with designs

RE: Waterloo Region Wish List 2019 - jgsz - 12-20-2018

1. One or two new airlines serving YKF.
2. A professional theatre company.
3. A Turkish, Sri Lankan and Hungarian restaurant.

RE: Waterloo Region Wish List 2019 - Rainrider22 - 12-20-2018

1) a new office tower in DTK
2) a successful launch of ION
3) an initiative to close king street completely to vehicles between Francis and Queen to focus strictly on a bicycle and pedestrian experience
4) a new major hotel conference centre near dtk
5) expansion of air travel service at ROW International airport
6) continued success and growth for business in the core
7) The Ontario government to recognize that there are cities outside of GTA that actually exist in Ontario.

Most things covered already, add:

1) Improved pedestrian crossings.
2) Regional commitment to safer, complete streets
3) Commitment from MTO to safer interchanges
4) Safer township roads for all vulnerable road users.

Great idea!  I think we've got some good ethnic food here, but not great.  I'd love to see some new options.

I want Google to build the "Google Tower". Calgary, Vancouver, Niagara Falls, Toronto -- they all have towers. Now it's time for Kitchener to get its tower.

Re #3, can we add Moroccan to that list?

Of course.  It’s a wish list.  By the way,  Casbah sells Moroccan food at the Kitchener market.  A couple of vendors sell some Hungarian deli and baked goods.
