Exactly, they do this all the time. Greyhound too... it's scary.

The new schedule is apparently causing huge issues for commuters all over the place. The loss of the express service is going down as well as expected.

Seems to be partially caused by storage in Kitchener. The new train is 12 cars, meaning the formerly express train had to drop from 12-10 so it would fit in the yard.

That's a loss of ~300 passenger spaces at least.

You know how they could remedy that? having the train travel in reverse direction back once it's done here  Wink

RE: GO Transit - Bob_McBob - 01-10-2019

According to someone on Reddit there was an announcement on the 5:02 train today that they'll be adding back the other two cars next week.

RE: GO Transit - timio - 01-10-2019

Which train other than the 3:35 has 12 cars? Because it's either that or the 3:35 that will lose the 2 extras, based on the assumption there's only space for 2 12 car trains in the Kitchener yards.

The 3:35 has never been packed in my experience riding it over the past year, so it could likely afford to lose the extra 2 cars.

The new Shirley Drive yard can easily accomodate four 12-car trains, but for reasons unknown Metrolinx insists on continuing to use the Park Street facility for two of its trains.

It may just be that it is logistically easier for them to have the trains continue the same direction rather than reversing, so given the choice they'd prefer to use the Park Street yard.

Ever since the King St. grade separation construction they have had to reverse in order to access the Park St. storage tracks, so this can’t be the explanation.

RE: GO Transit - KevinL - 01-11-2019

It's still a shorter drive to Park than to Shirley.

Shirley you don't mean that ?

RE: GO Transit - robdrimmie - 01-11-2019

His name's Kevin, not Shirley.

RE: GO Transit - KevinL - 01-11-2019

Of course I do, and Rob stole the punchline.

RE: GO Transit - Spokes - 01-14-2019

There's been a lot of Twitter rage about the changes thus far.

RE: GO Transit - timio - 01-14-2019

Seems to be about timing. Previously, there were 3 trains between 450 and 520. Now the trains are roughly 30 minutes apart, so capacity during rush hour is a full train less than it was. 2 cars isn't going to make a huge difference.
