RE: The COVID-19 pandemic - jeffster - 12-08-2020 (12-07-2020, 11:28 PM)tomh009 Wrote: It could be that he's using 2016 census numbers rather than current estimates, but even that is only a 10% difference. I think perhaps the region adds the City of Waterloo numbers which are usually off by 40,000 or so. That would make the total difference of maybe 15%? RE: The COVID-19 pandemic - tomh009 - 12-08-2020 TUESDAY 2020-12-08 Waterloo Region reported 56 new cases for today (10.7% of the active cases). 433 new cases for the week (-8), averaging 10.9% of active cases. 458 active cases (-122 in the last seven days). An average of 1,866 tests/day for the past week, for an average positivity rate of 3.39%, a significant improvement (albeit through increased testing). Ontario reported 1,676 new cases today with a seven-day average of 1,810 (-10). 1,549 recoveries and 10 deaths translated to an increase of 117 active cases, and a current total of 16,151. +1,587 active cases for the week and 145 deaths. 39,198 tests resulted in a 4.28% positivity rate. The positivity rate is averaging 3.62% for the past seven days, as compared to 3.72% for the preceding seven. 219 patients in ICU (+6) and 794 hospital beds in total (+149 for the week).

I'm calculating the rate per 100K, using the provincial case numbers, and the current population estimate from the regional web site. RE: The COVID-19 pandemic - tomh009 - 12-09-2020 WEDNESDAY 2020-12-09 Waterloo Region reported 55 new cases for today (11.9% of the active cases). 397 new cases for the week (-36), averaging 10.3% of active cases. 409 active cases (-185 in the last seven days). Next testing report on Friday. Ontario reported 1,890 new cases today with a seven-day average of 1,828 (+18). 1,924 recoveries and 28 deaths translated to a drop of 62 active cases, and a current total of 16,089. +1,483 active cases for the week and 138 deaths. 48,546 tests resulted in a 3.89% positivity rate. The positivity rate is averaging 3.61% for the past seven days, as compared to 3.75% for the preceding seven. 221 patients in ICU (+2) and 811 hospital beds in total (+155 for the week).
RE: The COVID-19 pandemic - ac3r - 12-10-2020 We were just shy of hitting 2'000 cases today, once again breaking a record with 1'983 new cases. 61 were here in Waterloo Region. While we don't have triple digit GTA levels here, we are pretty much at the top of the list for new cases after them...only Hamilton managed to surpass us with 10 more cases today. I imagine by the end of the month we'll be seeing 100+ a day and that will likely just keep growing after all the infections people give each other over Christmas and New Years Eve. RE: The COVID-19 pandemic - tomh009 - 12-10-2020 THURSDAY 2020-12-10 Waterloo Region reported 59 new cases for today (14.3% of the active cases). 394 new cases for the week (-3), averaging 10.9% of active cases. 387 active cases (-203 in the last seven days). Active cases are now down by about 275 from the recent peak, which helps keep new infections at a more moderate level. New cases are averaging 56 for the past week, compared to 77 for the prior week. New cases as % of actives are down from 14.5% last week to 10.9% this week. These are encouraging signs but the Christmas holidays are just around the corner. Next testing report on Friday. Ontario reported 1,983 new cases today -- another new high -- with a seven-day average of 1,862 (+34). 1,804 recoveries and 35 deaths translated to an increase of 144 active cases, and a current total of 16,233. +1,438 active cases for the week and 159 deaths. 61,809 tests -- a record here, too -- resulted in a 3.21% positivity rate. The positivity rate is averaging 3.60% for the past seven days, as compared to 3.78% for the preceding seven. 228 patients in ICU (+7) and 829 hospital beds in total (+163 for the week).

I imagine by the end of the month we'll be seeing 100+ a day and that will likely just keep growing after all the infections people give each other over Christmas and New Years Eve. Waterloo Region is averaging about 10.5 cases/100K in the past two weeks and trending down (see my comments above). That is below not only GTA but also Windsor, Hamilton, Guelph and Halton. Christmas holiday behaviour is the big wildcard, but otherwise the region seems to have recovered somewhat from the spike two weeks ago. New cases have been pretty stable around the 60 mark, and the number of active cases is dropping. RE: The COVID-19 pandemic - tomh009 - 12-11-2020 FRIDAY 2020-12-11 Waterloo Region reported 90 new cases for today (23.1% of the active cases). 422 new cases for the week (+28), averaging 12.7% of active cases. 429 active cases (-226 in the last seven days). A shocker of a number for new cases after a long series of daily case counts around 60. It turns out that 26 of those are at a single LTC facility. This is terrible because those are some of the highest-risk people. However, on the positive side, the non-LTC number is only 64, still stable, so no indication of massive new community spread. An average of 1,767 cases/day for the past week, for an average positivity of 3.57%. Ontario reported 1,848 new cases today -- another new high -- with a seven-day average of 1,822 (+10). 1,753 recoveries and 45 deaths translated to an increase of 50 active cases, and a current total of 16,283. +1,286 active cases for the week and 179 deaths. 63,051 tests -- a new record here, again -- resulted in a 2.93% positivity rate. The positivity rate is averaging 3.56% for the past seven days, as compared to 3.77% for the preceding seven. 235 patients in ICU (+7) and 808 hospital beds in total (+134 for the week).

Hadn't seen that yet but it's a pretty obvious decision based on the case numbers. RE: The COVID-19 pandemic - tomh009 - 12-12-2020 10-day averages for key regions in Ontario, plus the weekly trend.
RE: The COVID-19 pandemic - tomh009 - 12-12-2020 SATURDAY 2020-12-12 Waterloo Region reported 52 new cases for today (12.0% of the active cases). 449 new cases for the week (+27), averaging 13.8% of active cases. 422 active cases (-127 in the last seven days). Next testing report on Tuesday. Ontario reported 1,873 new cases today, with a seven-day average of 1,874 (+52). 1,918 recoveries and 17 deaths translated to a drop of 62 active cases, and a current total of 16,221. +1,009 active cases for the week and 176 deaths. 65,260 tests -- a third consecutive record -- resulted in a 2.87% positivity rate. The positivity rate is averaging 3.53% for the past seven days, as compared to 3.75% for the preceding seven. 237 patients in ICU (+2) and 855 hospital beds in total (+146 for the week).
RE: The COVID-19 pandemic - panamaniac - 12-12-2020 The "why" of Ottawa's success remains a bit of a mystery to me. We are a very obedient mask-wearing town, but whether that's why the numbers have been trending downward since Thanksgiving is anybody's guess. RE: The COVID-19 pandemic - plam - 12-12-2020 (12-12-2020, 02:42 PM)tomh009 Wrote: 10-day averages for key regions in Ontario, plus the weekly trend. Thanks, presents the information in a compact and easy to understand form. So how are you generating these? A script from a spreadsheet would be one-touch... Also right-aligning numbers is nice. If you stick the number between (align=right) tags that would right align them.
