City project? More to come? Who's the artist?

RE: Public/Street Art in Waterloo Region - tomh009 - 06-30-2020

The artist is Dominique Cinq-Mars Delay, from New Dundee. And the work is entitled "Free as birds". But that's all I know!

I've not seen that one before. Has it been in place for a long time?

RE: Public/Street Art in Waterloo Region - dtkvictim - 07-08-2020

It's Weber and Guelph: https://www.google.com/maps/@43.4613267,-80.499655,3a,37.6y,278.32h,83.83t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sBk6yfqHsLFrEGaO8fBshrA!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

I remember walking by it last fall, and according to street view it went in some time first half of 2019.

Wow! Do we know who the artist is, or the work's title?

RE: Public/Street Art in Waterloo Region - robdrimmie - 07-09-2020

I found this article in Kitchener Today, dated June 8, 2019: https://www.kitchenertoday.com/local-news/kitchener-residents-invited-to-help-complete-public-art-sculpture-1496971

There's not much, but it does identify the artists and could be a useful jumping off point.

Quote:Tomorrow, people from Kitchener will have the opportunity to help form a piece of public art.

A new public art sculpture, which is called The Stitch, will be placed on the northwest corner of Weber and Guelph Street.

Residents can come forge large needles using fire and hammers, which will be embedded into a sculpture.

This free event will take place tomorrow from 10 a.m. till 4 p.m.

The sculpture was created by a local blacksmith and coppersmith called the Two Smiths.

Ah, if I recall those smiths also did 'Spinal Column' across from GRH for the Ion public art run.

And the Don Quixote installation at the Hacienda Sarria gardens.
