I understand many of the delays here were external - the railway (CN) dragged their feet on approvals, etc., and that resulted in a slow start. Thus it can be tricky to say who should pay the extra costs needed.

Why CN? Metrolinx bought the section in 2014.

Good question. Perhaps because they continue to use the line for their freight? I'm not very familiar with how all that is administered.

I just did a quick search and CN owns the tracks and the land that they are on. I believe that GEX Railway just leases from CN.

The blue area shows the land owned by CN.

And Metrolinx purchased that stretch from Park Street east to Georgetown in 2014, though CN retained rights to operate on it.

Maybe MPAC hasn't recorded the sale yet.

I hear the first half of the #DomeTube has been covered!

RE: King Street Underpass at the Transit HUB - Markster - 02-09-2016

It sure has. I was just at King/Vic this morning.
It's the smaller half, and it's fully covered now.

Shame we won't know what kind of work is happening for a few months while its covered. If only it were transparent...

I imagine there will be portals/entrances at the ends. We may be able to peek in on occasion.

There will have to be something, won't there? The work is happening on active rail lines used by CN and GO on a daily basis. There'll have to be something unique to allow them to pass through, while still controlling the climate sufficiently.

The entire dome structure is to the south of the relocated rail line.

Nice! So the next steps for this are for them to create the bridge across the concrete bases they've poured, correct? And then after that they can realign the tracks onto the bridge, and begin digging out the underpass.
