Adding to Drum's comments, Bombardier is to deliver five more LRV's for the Eglinton Crosstown by February 1. With it taking a week and a half to send one vehicle by rail, they could never physically get the vehicles there on time. A 2 or 3-day turnaround by flatbed truck is entirely possible.

Thanks to both of you for the details and comments. Some points I hadn’t considered!

Here is an interesting video about loading trams from Bombardier’s plant in Europe for transit to Australia:

Previously I found a video about unloading in which the truck backed right into the ship and they did the usual ramp loading inside there, but I can’t seem to find it now.

Edit: I think this is it:

Note however that this procedure is incompatible with the other video: we aren’t seeing the other end of the trip from the other video but a different delivery.

This is still my favourite method:

That's bad ass!

The Hurontario LRT in Mississauga is still going ahead under the current government, but they've trimmed its scope somewhat. A loop around Mississauga City Centre is being removed, with only a wye in the track now giving access to the Square One terminal. A pedestrian bridge to connect with Cooksville GO will not be publicly funded (they hope a private station developer will build that), plus there will be 'scaled back streetscaping'.

I really have no idea how this affects the business case, there are a number of high rises near Duke of York Blvd. (and lots of housing beyond, I would have guessed that Confed Parkway would have been a better option).  But regardless, this is a good example of why you don't want Metrolinx owning your build.  You'll be subject to the whims of whatever crazy person ends up as Premier of Ontario.

All round its' not as bad as I thought, and no where near as big as loss as it was to have this stop short of Brampton.

The idea of a ped bridge to cooksville go is confusing at best. I'm not even sure why one is needed, the parking lot has access, all you need to do is build a stairway from the intersection of John St.  Unless they mean to put the station directly at the tracks, which doesn't make any sense unless they build an overpass...which...umm...can't wait for private investors.

Of course, this seems to be an increasingly pipe dream ish idea of getting private developers to magically build your transit stations.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know if the plan is to narrow Hurontario to 4 through lanes?

Well, this isn't a big surprise, but some citizen activists in Toronto have painted a 'pop-up bus lane' in Toronto.

Bravo...honestly...it's time...we need more direct action.

Looks like the SRT might be kaput. Seems after the recent derailment, it won't be fixed by September. What are the chances it is simply taken out of service permanently, as that was the plan all along?

Glad I got the chance to ride it a few years back, anyone who was hoping to do so in the near future might be out of luck.

Of course, the whole surrounding issue is ... bullshit...but that's a much longer post.

Indeed, the full saga of the SRT's decline and choice of replacement is quite the epic. An ignominious end seems somewhat appropriate.
