Lost Motorcycle Helmet

If you are the motorcyclist who was hurtling along Weber St. East this afternoon and lost a helmet, I have it.

Fire at car shop in downtown Kitchener sends plumes of smoke into the air

The owner had just repaired an ebike, took it out for a brief spin, returned to the shop and went into the basement. When he came back up, the bike was on fire. I was told this by a bystander who had talked to the owner.

I love how libraries are evolving to be more than just book lending.

Indeed! There is an organization which understands both it's core mission, and how that mission evolves with new technology.

I never thought libraries would stand out as such effective organizations.

I mean, if they were for profit businesses, they'd be suing people to try and stop the existence of the internet. Or so I speculate, no organization, or industry association would ever be that stupid would they!?

KPL recently started lending board games through their catalogue. Pre-Covid, Pioneer Park had a Toy/Game/Puzzle catalogue you could borrow from on a first-come first-serve basis by going in and selecting from a binder.

KPL does so many great things for the community. Board games are one thing, but they also offer free access to 3D printers, computers, VR, audio/video equipment, VHS tape digitization, music instrument loans, community gardens, lectures/workshops, an art gallery, movie nights, a chef that cooks meals for children/teens every day and more traditional things like knitting groups and reading groups. I kind of wish they'd improve certain parts of their book selection (namely philosophy, theory etc...they didn't even have Hegel last time I needed him hah) but they provide such an amazing service for our region.

I ran into this blog post about the impacts of libraries in their communities (in Denmark). Seems apropos to the current conservation.

I mean, I'm not familiar with philosophy, so I won't read into the fact that I haven't heard of Hegel, but WPL and KPL are general interest libraries, you would probably have more luck at a research library. I know UW (and I think also by extension Laurier) libraries are open to any adults residing in Ontario:

Alternatively, with KPL and WPL, there are inter-library loans, if there are other libraries with book you want you should be able to request them. And when I lived in London, you could request the library acquire books that were not available through any means. But again, YMMV as they are still general interest libraries.

It looks like some people caused some extensive damage to Rockway Gardens last night - up to $45'000 in damages. Speculation over on Reddit is that it's youth from oneROOF retaliating because they frequently hang out in the park, but are often chased off by police: https://www.facebook.com/gardenKitchener/posts/10159356969991952
