Could someone explain why all the new LED lights have another light on the top of the unit? It's a small blinking light.

In Kitchener, the lights have a low power network adaptive control modules, to remotely control lights.

I saw an article today about premature dimming/burning out of LED lights that were installed in Detroit, possibly affecting thousands of fixtures.

Waterloo Region used the same manufacturer (Leotek) for its LED conversion project. Is this a cause for concern?

If it does affect us, I trust we have a solid warranty on them.

If we used the Leotek fixture here it was a different model. Ours would have been the Green Cobra which from the pictures on the website seems to have a better heat sink on our fixtures. In reading the RFP for the project the Region has a 10 year warranty on the fixtures. If they fail or fall below the performance requirements (negligible light output from more than 10% of the LED in the light engine) they have to provide a new fixture. In addition during the first 5 year the contractor has to pay the Region $250 for the Regional forces to replace the fixture.

Although the E Cobra fixtures in Detroit also have a 10 year limited warranty.
